The Right Honourable Lady Justice Thirlwall DBE, Deputy Senior Presiding Judge, was appointed a Lady Justice of Appeal in February 2017. In October 2017, she was appointed as Deputy Senior Presiding Judge for England and Wales. Prior to her appointment to the Court of Appeal, she sat as a Judge of the High Court of Justice, Queen’s Bench Division.

Between 2011 and 2015, Lady Justice Thirlwall served as the Presiding Judge of the Midland Circuit and in 2016, served on the Sentencing Council. Lady Justice Thirlwall was called to the Bar of England and Wales by Middle Temple in 1982 and became a bencher in 2008. She was appointed as an Assistant Recorder in 1998, as Queen’s Counsel in 1999 and as a Recorder in 2000. Prior to her appointment to the High Court, LJ Thirlwall was Head of Chambers at 7 Bedford Row (88 Barristers) between 2007 and 2010.
