Dame Rose Heilbron becomes first appointed woman Recorder (Burnley).
1956 marks a historic milestone: the first appointment of a female judge, Heilbron, as Recorder of Burnley. She remained in this role until the Courts Act 1971 abolished it, subsequently becoming a Recorder of the Crown Court and Honorary Recorder of Burnley.
